Douglas Lumsden was elected as the Member of Parliament for Aberdeen South following the 2026 by-election. Previously, he served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for the North East Scotland region since May 2021. Before his election to the Scottish Parliament he served as the Councillor for the Airyhall, Broomhill, and Garthdee ward on Aberdeen City Council from 2017 to 2022. During this time Douglas served as co-leader of the of the City Council until 2021 when he was elected to the Scottish Parliament.
During his time in the Scottish Parliament Douglas served in the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for Public Finance, Planning, and Community Wealth. In June 2023 he was appointed by Russell Findlay to serve as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Environment. He left the Scottish Shadow Cabinet following his election to the Parliament in 2026.
Prior to entering politics Douglas spent more than 20 years working in IT for the oil and gas Industry.
