Douglas Lumsden has called for the Eurovision song contest to be held in Aberdeen following the announcement that Ukraine would not be able to host next year’s event due to the ongoing conflict.

In his letter to the Managing Director of the P&J Live Douglas Lumsden wrote; "It has been great to see Teca reopening and attracting so many first-class events after what has been a very difficult couple of years for the sector."

While celebrating Ukraine's success in Milan Douglas Lumsden noted that unfortunately due to the ongoing conflict in the country it would likely be difficult for the contest to be held in Ukraine. An official statement from the European Broadcasting Union confirmed it was in talks with the BBC about the possibility of the UK hosting the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.

"While it is normally up to the winner to host the following years competition the conflict in Ukraine seems to make this very idficult and it may fall to the runner up to host next year's event."

"If Eurovision is coming to the United Kingdom, I could think of no better location to host the event than our very own P&J Live."

Douglas Lumsden was pleased to hear that the P&J Live described Eurovision is “exactly” the type of event the complex was built to deliver and is determined to support the Aberdeen venue.
