20mph is already the mandatory speed limit in the core area of the city centre, new developments, areas around schools, and some residential areas.
However, Aberdeen City Council will now be expanding the areas covered by 20mph speed limit more widely across the city. 20mph will now be the standard speed limit on most of the roads in the built up/residential areas of Aberdeen.
There are concerns that the Council will put 20mph limits on roads where a higher speed limit would be more suitable. A limit which is too low can increase pollutants as a result of excessive braking, and the danger of collision can increase because drivers are concentrating too much on keeping in the limit.
Have your say: Do you agree with blanket 20mph speed limits on the vast majority of roads?
